Are Jennifer Lawrence’s leaked photos overrated?

On August 31, 2014, Jennifer Lawrence was among the celebrities whose private pictures were leaked online.

The event, now called “The Fappening”, gave the public almost five hundred photos and videos of celebrities doing things they would surely want to keep private.

But unfortunately, they were anything but private.

They went viral on websites like Reddit, 4chan, Anon-IB, Imgur, and Tumblr, and it became an unstoppable force, especially the photos and videos of A-list celebrities, such as Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kaley Cuoco, and Kirsten Dunst.

Are Jennifer Lawrence’s leaked photos overrated? Without a doubt.

The only reason they went viral is that she’s famous. If she wasn’t they would have been put aside as nothing but amateur, and completely ignored, which, in a fair world is what would have happened.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Lawrence stated:

I was just so afraid. I didn’t know how this would affect my career.

I tried to write a statement but every single thing that I tried to write made me cry or get angry. I started to write an apology, but I don’t have anything to say I’m sorry for. I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years. It was long distance, and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he’s going to look at you.

Jennifer Lawrence NAKED Photos

I can’t even describe to anybody what it feels like to have my naked body shoot across the world like a news flash against my will. It just makes me feel like a piece of meat that’s being passed around for a profit.

Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory.

It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world.

People forget that we’re human.

I can’t not act. It’s what I was made to do, and I swear to God, it’s the only thing that I’m good at, but that does not mean that I deserve to live like this.

When I have to make that phone call to my dad and tell him what’s happened . . . I don’t care how much money I get for The Hunger Games. . . . I promise you, anybody given the choice of that kind of money or having to make a phone call to tell your dad that something like that has happened, it’s not worth it.

It’s a shame all these people went through this and it’s a shame it will surely happen again in the future. Celebrities not only lose their privacy to the paparazzi and fans, but also to online hackers and their schemes.

If you want to look at Jennifer Lawrence naked, go watch her films.

She consented to showing you her body there, not in the leaked photos and videos.

The photos were reportedly obtained as a result of an iCloud security breach, which allowed celebrities’ phones and laptops to be hacked. In an attempt to earn Bitcoins, the cyber hacker initially uploaded the naked photos on the image-sharing website 4chan.

Lawrence’s spokeswoman Liz Mahoney issued a statement saying, “This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.”

Jennifer Lawrence Takes Underwear Photos And Talks About Trauma From Nude Leaks

Jennifer Lawrence is taking back her own body image and reflecting on a time just eight years ago when it was completely taken from her. Like more than 100 other celebrities, Jennifer Lawrence was the target of hackers in 2014 who managed to compromise Apple’s iCloud accounts, giving them access to private camera rolls that, for many stars, included private nude photos that were then disseminated online for everyone to see. Unfortunately, in most cases like Jennifer Lawrence’s, that means that they now exist in a searchable form forever.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Lawrence spoke about having to cope with the fact that she no longer had control over when to show her nudity and how much the public is allowed to see. While she noted that her “trauma will exist forever,” she’s able to shake it off these days and is even willing to show off her body again.

She did a steamy and, given the context, empowering photoshoot with the magazine in which she poses in tasteful shots in her underwear and other fashionable loungewear. Eight years later and Jennifer Lawrence is still as attractive as ever. However, now the decision to show off her body in this photoshoot as well as subsequent movies like Red Sparrow carries an entirely different connotation.

Newsweek reports that the mastermind behind the violating hack only received an eight-month prison sentence. Meanwhile, the celebrities whom he targeted are forced to live with the fallout of the experience forever. Speaking in her latest interview, Jennifer Lawrence noted that she still feels the burden of the violation every day, noting that she’s aware someone in France just reuploaded her nudes.

The actress’ comments echo those she made at the time in a separate interview with Vanity Fair where she lamented not having the choice to show her body, calling it “disgusting” and noting that her status as a public figure does not give people the right to view her private photos without consent. In essence, if you were unaware that Jennifer Lawrence and others’ had nudes leaked in 2014, she would ask you to do them a favor, show some respect, and don’t Google it. Some corners of the Internet don’t deserve to be explored.

Elsewhere in her latest interview, Jennifer Lawrence discussed a different violation that took place in 2018 when disgraced movie mogul (and convicted rapist) Harvey Weinstein reportedly claimed to have had a sexual relationship with her that led to her Oscar win. In a statement provided to People at the time, Jennifer Lawrence denied that ever took place. There’s an old adage that when two people claim two different things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. In this case, though, let’s just agree to believe the person who isn’t a convicted rapist.

When she burst onto the Hollywood scene as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence, for better or worse, had a lot of attention on her. It’s disappointing and a grim commentary on the state of public figures in the United States that it ultimately led to a nude photo leak and a conversation about public figures’ privacy. Still, after eight years the actress has landed in a mentally positive place with everything, which is impressive.
